The University of Missouri - St. Louis
Campus GIS
The University of Missouri- St. Louis and their
Department of Planning and Construction recognized a need to establish a
comprehensive geospatial data infrastructure that would unify the information
that defines UMSL’s campus. In order to
achieve this, Kinetic Solutions proposed a campus-wide Geographic Information
System (GIS) to help with the University’s rapid expansion and modernization of
their campus facilities. The University of Missouri, St. Louis, as a current
customer, has relied on the GIS Services of Kinetic Solutions for Scanning and
Document Management. Kinetic Solutions
was able to recognize the requirements of the University and provide a GIS
solution that would improve quality and reduce costs, make the information more
accessible and promote the sharing of geospatial data throughout all levels of
the University’s operations.
Kinetic Solutions has subcontracted Pickett Ray and Silver, Inc., a
professional St. Louis surveying firm, to develop the campus geo-referencing
system. Kinetic Solutions is developing
the digital base map, and with coordination of the University’s staff members,
will construct useful data sets or layers to assist UMSL with survey control,
surface lighting, communications, utility lines, transportation and property
management. This Campus GIS will be
used to support various business decisions for the University, and will allow
UMSL to integrate many of the layers of spatial information by creating a
complete digital record of the entire campus that will effectively support the
large number of engineering, design and construction tasks facing the
University.
